The more recent records are more numerous, but they are also enigmatic. "'In 1937 and 1938, he, with John Michel, fostered a movement called Michlism, which same was momunistic in base. His actions during this period were inexplicable. He seemed to be experimenting. His actions were erratic and unconventional. A group arose to ouse him from an organization called the Fantasy Amateur Press Association, because his moves had become intolerable. This group made excellent progress against Wollheim and Michlism, for the man became more and more unbearable. By the end of 1938, even his own colleagues, with the exception of Michel, had deserted him. He was not re-elected to the office of Official Editor of the Fantasy Amateur Press Association in 1939. Neither was Michel reelected to the presidency of this same organization. Fandom had had quite enough. "'It was in August of 1939 that the astounding occurrences began. Wollheim and Michel were swimming at a beach with a party of fans. The two were unwelcome, but insisted on staying with the rest. The fans began to tongue-lash them. Then the incredible.... Wollheim metamorphosed into a large fish before their very eyes. The fish swam about in the water, nipping wickedly at uncovered anatomy. Consternation reigned. The group hastily made for the shore. Fish and Michel followed. After getting to terra firm, the fleeing fans looked back--and saw the fish change into the familiar form of Wollheim. Several had Mysteries. "' Soon after this episode began a chain of incredible events. Wollheim changed into myriad Worme in swift succession. He appeared to have little control over these changes. If he climbed to heights, he became a bird. If he entered the water, he became a fish. And, on land, he might become any terrestial life-form. Once, it is said
