Page Four pp Science Fiction Collector DEEP PURPLE by Sam Moskowitz Commemorating the Third Anniversary of The Science Fiction Collector, fandom's oldest fan magazine. "Through the mist of a memory, You wander back to me." When one speaks of memories, he magically finds that time and distance have weaved a web of enchantment about them, Suddenly they shift and shimmer, and the dross and mundaneness of the past have defined the glory of the present and the hope of tomorrow. Wherever songs are sung there is moodiness and thoughts, It is not the words, whlch In themselves are meaningless; but rather it is the relation of some fragment, combined with a drift of melody; that reveals to the listener his innermost thoughts and feelings which are as strangers to him, Deep Purple — to me it is correlative to but one thing.- Crudely, the hectographlng era in science fiction fandom. What more apt description could I utilise than the words ... Deep Purple? They signify to me a group of gloriously mad youngsters, playing at being men finding through the medium of violet messy inks the expression of mind professionally denied them.
