Statewide Network Meeting Fort Madison, IA (Harper Estate) August 10 I. Welcome by Virginia Harper In attendance 1. Virginia Harper - Fort Madison 2. Rudy Simms - Des Moines 3. R. A. Jackson - Des Moines 4. Morris Johnson - Des Moines 5. Carol Simmons - Davenport 6. Billie Lloyd - Davenport 7. Tom Kelly - Davenport 8. William Cribb - Waterloo 9. Dianne Dillon Ridgely - Burlington 10. Warden Mix - Special guest - Fort Madison II. Job Services Network up-dated on letter to Ombudsman's office concerning Job Services. There was a lot of discussion on strategies and plan of actions. The Network decided at the next meeting to talk to Dick Freeman of Job Services and the Davenport administrator of Job Services to discuss Job Services, its problems and hiring practices. Job Services is writing a response to the Network. III. Civil Rights Commission A. Ad Hoc committee met with the Governor, August 7th for about fifty minutes concerning problems and recommendations in reference to the I.C.R.C. The Ad Hoc committee also met with the acting director of I.C.R.C., Louis Martin. B. Two major concerns were having an outside consultant come in and evaluate the commission and representation on the Search Committee. IV. Old Business A. Network representation: Discussion about our member representation and where representatives are needed for other parts of the state. B. Minority staff levels in City and County Government. Carol Simmons (D.D.P.) presented data on Scott County. Other areas of the state will hopefully provide more data. V. New Business A. Statewide conference: It was decided to have an initial planning committee to develop a written structural plan for a conference in 1985. The committee members are Tom Kelly, Carol Simmons and Billie Lloyd with other ex-official persons. The committee
