IOWA DEPARTMENT OF JOB SERVICE 1000 East Grand Avenue Des Moines, Iowa 50319 DATE: October 1, 1985 ADMINISTRATIVE LETTER NO. 3-85 TO: All Employees SUBJECT: Affirmative Action/EEO Policy The following POLICY STATEMENT of the Iowa Department of Job Service concerning the Affirmative EEO policy originates from the highest authority in this agency. The Iowa Department of Job Service is fully committed and dedicated to a policy of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action for all, both in staffing and delivery of services to applicants, claimants and programs. Job Service will insure that equal opportunity principles are adhered to in the recruitment, examination, training, promotion, retention, discipline and any other aspect of personnel administration without any consideration for race, creed, color, religion, national origin, sex, age or disability. We further fully support and will abide by the Federal Standards for a Merit System of Personnel Administration and the Iowa Governor's Executive Orders 15 and 46. We recognize and accept responsibility to remove any existing barriers that may deny or retard equal opportunity in the hiring and promotion of minorities, women and the handicapped. We will comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 in admission to employment programs and activities. Further, we will work closely with the Iowa Merit Employment Department, our Job Service offices, State and Federal Agencies, and interested groups to implement our policy of employing minorities, women and the handicapped to meet realistic projections in agency staffing. All Job Service employees and the Iowa general public will be notified of this commitment. Written notice of this policy will be delivered to each Job Service staff member with the requirement that each must understand and support it. It shall be the responsibility of the Division Administrators, District Managers and the Department Chiefs to keep all employees reminded of the policy at all times, and it shall be a regular part of basic orientation training. In addition, it will be included in agency publication cited in all training sessions, and posted on all agency bulletin boards to assist us in assuring strict adherence by agency personnel .
