Saving...
-2- " A race is like a man..., until it uses it's talents, takes pride in it's own history, and loves it's own memories, it can never fulfill itself completely." - John W. Vandercook February 12th is the anniversary of the founding of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, as well as Lincoln's birthday. The Association was founded in 1909 by a group of citizens who realized that silence in the face of such atrocities as the Springfield race riot of 1908, in Illinois would only be a disservice to the country and its minority groups, mainly the Negro "If you have learned to walk... a little more sure footedly than I, Be patient with my stumbling then.. And know that only as I do my best and try.. May I attain the goal... For which we both are striving. If through experience your soul... has gained height which I As yet, in dim lit vision see, ... Hold our your hand and point the way Lest from its straightness I should stray... and walk a mile with me." FACTS IN NEGRO HISTORY The OLDEST CARVINGS AND DRAWINGS which have been discovered were executed by the Negro peoples over 15,000 years ago in Southern France, Northern Spain, Palestine, South Africa and India. The drawings are on rocks, the carvings on bone, basalt and ivory. ELAM, a mighty Negro civilization of Persia. flourished about 3900 BC and is perhaps older than Egypt or Ethiopia. One of its later Negro Kinds, Kudur Nakunta, conquered Chaldea and Babylon and brough back to his capitol, Susa, rich treasures, among which was the famous statue of the goddess, Nana. Later, it became the capitol of Cyprus the Great and Darius. Susa is the Shushan of the Bible where Esther sought the favor of King Ahaserus of Persia and Ethiopia. CHEOPS, a Negro built the Great Pyramid, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It is 451 feet high, has 2,500,000 blocks of granite, each, two and a half tons, covers 13 acres, took 100,000 men thirty years to build and was completed in 3730 BC. NEGROES lived in America thousands of years before Columbus. Central America monuments show numerous carvings of them as gods. When Columbus came to the New World,Negroes had been crossing from Africa to South America - a distance of 1,600 miles. The first white men to reach the American mainland tell of seeing Negroes. Columbus, who visited South America, said that he heard of them there. IMHOTEP of Ancient Egypt, was the real Father of Medicine . He lives about 2300 BC. Greece and Rome had their knowledge of medicine from him. In Rome he was worshipped as the Prince of Peace in the form of a black man. His Ethiopian portraits show him as a Negro. Imhotep was also Prime Minister to Kind Zoser as well as the foremost architect of his time. The saying, "Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die," has been traced to him. Hippocrates lived 2,000 years after Imhotep.
