So they never learned that hypocrisy is a part of the American way." - Whitney Young, executive director of the Urban League, on what young people didn't learn The 1970, Iowa NAACP State Conference Executive Board, has been meeting once every month, instead of the usual three or four times a year. Throughout the year the Board members will hold meetings in every area of the state. So far, Des Moines, Waterloo and Ottumwa have been hosts, with Sioux City scheduled for the May meeting. State Conference President, Attorney Thomas Kelly, has assumed the position of Legal Redress Chairman, filling the vacancy created when Robert Wright became Director of Region IV, NAACP, Plans are being made to raise funds for this particular "arm" of the State Committee. Details will be made public in the very near future. The State Education Chairman, Mrs. Maude White, has given vital information which will aid minority group students who wish to further their education. For instance, a student needing aid may apply to: Coretta King Foundation State University of Iowa Iowa City, Iowa or United Black Federation Mrs. Sadye Jones, Scholarship Chairman 1512 Guthrie Avenue Des Moines, Iowa 50316 Also, there is a work-study program and an internship program for "three-year" College students which might be beneficial to minority students. For information concerning these, and other available programs, write to: Mrs. Maude White Iowa State Programming and Planning State Capitol Des Moines, Iowa All of the meetings have been interesting and informative, with Miss Marjorie Smith sending us State Newsletters, between meetings. It is the aim of the current Board to put into motion, effective programs which will have a positive impact on the civil rights picture in Iowa. Every Branch should make a definite effort to see that they are adequately represented at these meetings. Most are! ! The REVEREND JESSE L. JACKSON, National Director of OPERATION BREADBASKET of the SCLC, in Chicago, has been selected by the CIC of Davenport, Iowa to receive the 1970 Pacmin Terris Peace and Freedom Award. The presentation will take place at the Masonic Temple, Davenport, Iowa at 8PM on Wednesday, April 8th. Tickets are priced at $1.00, $2.00 and $3.00.
