ANGELENOTES by MOROJO The editor of Science Fiction and Future Fiction now lives across the street from me, on a level where he can look in my window. Furthermore, he says he often does! I shall have to be careful when entertaining my Gentlemen friends from Mars -- maybe I should invite the Invisible Man only! Charlie, 4e, & I have been devoting some time lately to trying to think up ideas for Superworld scientificartoons. *** Bob Heinlein has sold Astounding a penal-piece, about punishing criminals by refusing to speak to them. Dr de Castro, Angelenic author who knew Lovecraft, is another who has unusual views on "crime & punishment". The author of "The Electric Executioner" & the author (?) of "Hollerbochon's Dilemma" are now collaborating on a science-fiction idea. *** To the Ladies: Pretty, blonde Mary Gnaedinger, (according to the reports I hear), who pronounces her name Nay'-din-ger (hard g), writes me she will consider the Giesyarn in Esperanto, "2112", as a reprint possibility for a future FFM. *** Henlein's [sic] wife Leslyn recently entertained at their Laurel Canon [sic] Calif, home -- "Castle Stoneybroke" -- the leading ladies of the 2 forthcoming fantascience film thrillers, "One Million BC" & "Dr. Cyclops". *** Pogo's moving record now stands at 28 times in 22 mos. *** Amelia Reynolds Long is coming before long (eek!) in Science Fiction with "Castaways in Space" while Leslie Frances Stone will have "Gravity Off" in Future Fiction. *** Gal-axy! At the latest meeting of the Los Angeles SF "Queens" & their "Men's Auxiliary"! Visitor from San Francisco was one "Margo", collegiate who is acquainted, in that city with RH "Leaves" Barlow. She had read Weaver Wright's write-up (& again, eek) about the "Insiders in Weird". Questioned as to why she reads fantastic fiction she replied: "I don't know; I guess it's to flatter my ego." *** The following interchange took place between Guest Margo and Member Virginia Lancy: Virginia: "Do you belong to or go to SFL meetings in San Francisco? If so are they anything like this one? We have speakers occasionally." Margo: "As far as I know, there is absolutely nothing. If I go back -- which I hope not -- I am going to try and start one. I like your meeting, though. The informality is very good. I don't think a "dictatorial" meeting would be nearly as good. This gives one more reason to want to stay in Los Angeles." *** Photo of 4e is scheduled to appear in Avery's ltd. edition of Negative Narratives. *** Esperanto song heard in preview of "Road to Singapore": "Jen la Luno Nova", meaning "Behold the New Moon." PHILLY NOTES Philadelphia, Feb. 24: (Exchange, PSFS News) Although the PSFS attendance record of 10 was tied at last meeting, there were no more than eight present at any single moment of the meeting. ...Lex Phillips informed the gathering that there would be a joint meeting of the Rittenhouse Astronomical Society and the Franklin Institute, and invited the group to attend. Several members intend to do so. *** Due to the fact that the Sunday meetings were growing increasingly shorter it was decided to revert back to Saturday meetings, for awhile at least. It seems that no one can arrive on time Sunday afternoons, not even the officers! *** Although James V. Taurasi is conductor of the SFL, he has to take orders from Leo Margulies, the power behind the throne. Margulies has already told Taurasi not to appoint anyone already on the board of the Science Fictioneers, which is going to cause a little trouble. ... Furthermore, Wm S. Sykora's intimation that no active fans are connected with the Science Fictioneers is a silly statement, and an insult to those on the board. DENVER NOTE Denver, Col. March 6: After a delay of seven months, Olon F. Wiggins has announced that the issues of the Science Fiction Fan past due will be forthcoming shortly. Wiggins will run off issues for August, September 1939 as well as February and March 1940. The October, November, December, and January numbers will be done by Commander P. J. Searles.
