Saving...
was very good. Life had a good picture of a soldier trying to figure out what [[underlined]] "jetaime" [[/underlined]] meant. You will have a right to be surprised at seeing my southern belle as I'd be surprised myself. But it is lonesome in bachelor quarters, and married officers have regular homes with some good government furniture and nice enough quarters to justify the purchase of other things as good as one can afford. Orange blossoms still scent the air. Lester MacGregor, your know, was married a week or so ago. But there is no immediate likelihood of a military wedding in the Browning family. You asked what I have to study. Well the [[underlined]] Infantry Drill Regulations [[/underlined]] can take up a lot of time. The [[underlined]] I.D.R. [[/underlined]] is the army Bible and is supposed to be a book one can't read too much. Then the [[underlined]] Field Service Reqs [[/underlined]] the [[underlined]] Army Regulations, [[/underlined]] the [[underlined]] Manuel of Courts-Martial, [[/underlined]] the [[underlined]] Small Arms Firing Manual [[/underlined]] the [[underlined]] Manual of Topography, Map Reading and Reconnaissance, [[/underlined]] the [[underlined]] Manual of Physical Training, [[/underlined]] and the [[underlined]] Signal Book [[/underlined]] are all quite up to date. Open warfare is not obsolete as it would be sure to be the sort of thing one would have to do if ever the trenches are punctured. Then we have two or three new confidential publications based on the experience of our allies in this war, and the various journals contain much valuable stuff. The next promotion for me would be to a first lieutenancy and should not come later than spring. If I get it I'll not forget to let you know. My trip to I.C. is still pretty doubtful. Hope you carried out the Cone scheme. Am glad you saw Her. Is She looking fit? Tonight the French officer on duty with our camp gives another lecture and the announcement says "All officer of this regiment [[underlined]] will [[/underlined]] attend." Thats in about an hour so I'll get into my serge. Sincerely Bob
