The Infantry School Camp Benning Columbus, Ga. Sept. 14, 1919 Dear Miss Williams - Again I am about to go to Europe. My second annual date for departure is set for the first week of October this year. I plan every fall to cross the Atlantic, you know. This year my prospective tour includes Coblenz and, perhaps, Silesia. I've been assigned to the 50th Infantry at Camp Dix, N.J. and expect to leave here next Friday or Saturday. The date of sailing has not been made public as yet but it seems likely that we'll be on our way early in October. There are a dozen or more of us from the school here who are transferred to the 50th so we are looking forward to a good time over there. There is a fair chance that Congress may prevent American troops going to Silesia but if any Americans go there to maintain order during the coming plebiscite the 50th will get the detail. At least that is the present plan, as told to Congress by Secretary Baker. It certainly is good to be finishing this Georgia detail, Dixie is all right to sing about, but --. Just before my transfer came though I had a letter from Mr. Carrell telling me that the Scout campaigns had raised enough for only one executive who would be in charge of girls as well as Boy Scouts.
