53 Negro patients in their offices. One replied that he served Negro patients only occasionally; another, a few. No doctor answered that he would not serve Negro patients. Moreover, 23 of the physicians indicated that Negro patients were accommodated during regular office hours. Only one physician failed to answer this question; another replied that there had been no objection so far. The majority (25 doctors) replied that there had been no complaints concerning Negro patients receiving service during the regular office; one physician answered he had complaints occasionally; any other complaints were hearsay. Nineteen doctors indicated that in the course of their practice they were accustomed to making home calls. All nineteen also answered that they made home calls to Negro homes when called. Solution of the Problem To the question "What in your opinion is the solution of the problem of this minority group?" doctors' replies fell in the following distributions: Should be treated the same 8 No problem 8 Education 2 Tolerance 1 Load Upright Christian Lives 1 Raising issue creates one 1 No response 7 Total 28 Comments Each physician was given the opportunity at the end of the medical questionnaire to make any other remarks he felt pertinent.
