6. facts, brought out by our Self-Survey, that on the one hand, there are many businesses who are willing to employ Negroes but do not now have Negroes on their payroll, and that on the other hands, there are a number of Negroes who wish employment in this type firm. Some hesitate to apply, we feel since the management's policy is unknown. We hope to get the man and the job together. The results of a new housing survey indicating the market for improved housing among Negroes is now being brought to the attention of the Board of Realtors by our Mayor's Committee in a similar attempt to get the product to the customer in the belief that if the market can be demonstrated the article will be produced. The product that we're after, let there be no mistake, is not Negro housing but unsegregated housing. These are samples of the Mayor's Committee activities which have included extensive educational programs over the radio and in the press. Public interest in the committee is growing and two organizations are now regularly represented at its meetings as observers -- the Interfaith Council of Churches and the NAACP. That brings us to the awakened interest among members of the minority itself, in response to this new climate. The first development of the kind was the formation of a very active NAACP chapter shortly after the beginning of the Self-Survey. This has been followed by the establishment of a Youth Council
