Corporate Names and Forms of Bequest The Board of Home Missions of the Congregational and Christian Churches 287 Fourth Avenue, New York City Incorporated in 1937 in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York The Board of Home Missions of the Congregational and Christian Churches has been appointed as agent by each of the corporations listed below. Their work is now carried on by this one Board, but the original corporations are still in existence. Bequests may run either to the original corporations, or to the Board of Home Missions without designation as to use, or to the Board of Home Missions with designation of the particular corporation or type of work to whose benefit it is desired that such bequests be applied. Form of Bequest I give and bequeath to The Board of Home Missions of the Congregational and Christian Churches, a corporation organized and existing under the laws of the States of Connecticut and New York and of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, incorporated in 1937, the sum of.... dollars to be applied for the uses and purposes of said corporation. Division of Christian Education In 1816 there was incorporated in the State of Massachusetts "The American Society for the Education of Pious Youth for the Gospel Ministry." In 1820 the name of this organization was changed to "American Education Society," In 1872 there was an act to incorporate "The Society for the Promotion of Collegiate and Theological Education." Two years later, in 1874, the "American Education Society" and the "Society for the Promotion of Collegiate and Theological Education" united to form "American College and Education Society" became "The American Education Society," and in 1894 the name was once more changed, this time to "The Congregational Education Society" The Division of Christian Education, carrying on the work of the Congregational Education Society, gives leadership in Christian Education in the home, church and church school. and to students and colleges. It prepares the Curriculum of Christian nurture and helps the churches to develop more effective programs for children, young people and adults. Congregational Education Society 14 Beacon Street, Boston, Mass. Organized and Incorporated under the laws of Massachusetts in 1916. The Congregational Foundation for Education Unincorporated 14 Beacon Street, Boston, Mass (Form of Bequest above) The Ministerial Relief Division The Trustees of the National Council of the Congregational Churches, incorporated in 1885, changed its name in 1907 to the Congregational Board of Ministerial Relief Division. It seeks to secure, hold, manage and distribute funds which will afford some measure of security to the ministry of our churches, through grants to aged and disabled ministers and their widows and orphans. In 1850 an organization was formed called the "Doctrinal Tract and Book Society" for the purpose of producing, publishing, selling and circulating moral and religious tracts and books. The name of this organization was changed in 1854 to "The Congregational Board of Publication" In 1868 the "Massachusetts Sabbath School and Publishing Society." 1870 found this name changed to "Congregational Publishing Society of Boston." Another change took place in 1883 when the name became "The Congregational Sunday School and Publishing Society." Finally in 1919 the legal name was made the "Congregational Publishing Society" with "The Pilgrim Press" as the trade name. The Pilgrim Press Division carries on the work of the Congregational Publishing Society through the publication of books and periodicals, study courses and supply pastors and churches with books and other accessories Congregational Publishing Society 14 Beacon Street, Boston Mass. 19 South La Salle Street, Chicago Ill. Incorporated under the laws of Massachusetts in 1841.
