Jan 3 '74 Happy New Year, you all! Ours has started badly with a huge rain which froze and broke power lines. I am sitting in the bath room which is heated by a tub of hot water. Mercifully we have a gas-heated hot-water heater. Water's hot enough to soft-boil an egg if you change the water often. I am sporting the layered look -- sweater under my robe, bath towel around my legs. (I have not yet purchased pants--outer ones, that is.) Just heard another tree branch fall. We live in the tree area of the campus and the poor things are all bent and broken. Mr. Jackson, my boss, lamented the fact that he has no wood for his fireplace -- brand new house -- but from today he'll have all he can pick up. I heard the woosh of two falling trees as I was walking the two blocks from work. Don't know what tomorrow will bring. I worked at checking book lists today with two candles and a flashlight. The place got cooler & cooler and I moved away from the window area and I learned it's not easy to check a card file with gloves on. The others all went
