Compost is an attempt to let people know what's going on in Iowa City--what's available, what's possible. The first step to sharing our lives is sharing our information; we know a lot more together than we do by ourselves. In making Compost, we put in everything we could think of that seemed at all revelant, and everything anyone else told us about. We didn't have the time to follow up a lot of the services we listed, or to get a complete list of everything we available in each field. There are a lot of inaccuracies and omissions in here, but it is a beginning. If you have any opinions on the information we listed here, or have any new information to add, please write to Compost, c/o Action Studies, 301 Jefferson Building, Iowa City. (See back page.) Depending on the response as an indication of what further publications are needed, we will either put out a periodic mimeographed bulletin of additions, or include the new information we get in Other Ways, or publish a second, bigger edition of Compost next year. It should be clear by going through the catalog, how much we still rely on the very system we are trying to change for our jobs and our needs--and that system isn't designed to fill them satisfactorily. Ideally, the end result of Compost should be a skills reference service, reflecting the services and opportunities we can find among ourselves, within our own community. And if thou wouldst understand that which is me, know this: all that I have said I have uttered playfully--and I was by no means ashamed of it.
