9 A DREAM DEN by Len Moffatt Some time ago there appeared in LeZ a series of articles on "My Den" written by various fans and other such unusual people. I had the pleasure of reading those gems of description, and upon recently recalling them, decided to write one myself. Of course, I have no den. But I intend to have one sometime between now and the Hereafter, perhaps even in the Hereafter, (( how will you keep your collection from burning? -editor)) who knows? Even if I have to convert my bedroom into one. I suppose I could call it a bed-den, or, to follow the fancies of word-coining fandom, a beden. It is the description of this beden I have dreamed up that I would like to pass along to you. In the above mentioned articles, wallpaper seems to be one of the chief topics. Ah! I have often tried to decide what kind of wallpaper I would have, or if I would have any at all. Since I intend to line the walls of my den with bookcases; it is doubtful if wallpaper would be needed except in spot s where the absence of a bookcase left a few bare inches of wall exposed. And one can always hang an original in those places, even tho only a few square inches of it would be seen. The place will then look like a public library or a newsstand, I dunno which. Somewhere in the center of the room will be my desk, complete with pen, ink, paper, typewriter, toothpicks and apple cores, the usual accessories. The chair? Well, one of those kind that lean back and whirl around ... I like to swivel. (( you are giving a pretty fair exhibition of it right now chum. -editor )) . (( Editor's note: and there friends, you have it, Moffatt's dream den. We can't help but beam with pride over the editing job we've done with this article -- it originally ran four pages. We have boiled it down to the four paragraphs you see above. An editing record of some sort. We are willing to wager Len will never write for us again! ))) Erle Korshak -loves- Fred Shroyer L.R. We should have devoted three lines to each, your name on top, "loves" in the middle, and the full name of your love on the third line. We've had to use only the last name in many instances, but 'tis too late now.
