The University of Iowa Iowa City, Iowa 52240 [emblem to right] Office of the President June 1970 Dear Student: An education is defined differently by different people. This is as it should be. In a university, we should have multiple approaches to instruction and curricula so that diverse students and faculty can be drawn out in the most effective way. In social and personal relationships multiple opportunities should also be available so that individual students may live and study in an atmosphere conducive to his educational growth and personal development. The University of Iowa is more than its classrooms; it is a residential university which permits constant interaction among students and faculty on the campus. The fraternity system over the years has contributed to the diversity of living experience available to University students. In the smaller group of a fraternity, many students find stimulus for their academic achievements, personal friendships and group activities which make their education more meaningful. We are pleased that you plan to enroll at The University of Iowa, and I join the Interfraternity Council in extending a warm welcome to you. [actual signature] Willard L.
