the third meeting Sun. 5th 6:30 we brought pizza The policy concerning men was discussed. We are all in agreement that we don't want men there (we decided this the first meeting Colette read a statement from the Olivia collective concerning women only concerts. We decided to write up a similar staement. One that was explanitory. also to make various lengths of that policy (one short and medium one long) so we can use them at different times (i.e. over the phone, press etc.) The use of the policiy will be only when the occaision arises. We will not offer it with out it being requested, in that we don't want to raise this issue or selves. The immediate problems will probably be in funding requests (i.e. NOW and maybe student senate and individual donations) Secondly it will be used in person to oerson contacts. Lastly for the press. It was decided that in order to limit our contact with the press that we should not talk to the press untill the day before the rally. That day we would call a press confrence. We felt this was the best way to insure the most control over what was said. This means that the publicity would have to be what ae could generate. In the event (probably predictable) that the media decides to go ahead and print what they know about the last TBTN if it looks t be damaging then we would call the Press confrence earlier. The important thing is that [[underlined]] we [[underlined]] decide when [[underlined]] we [[underlined]] want to talk with them. In answering questions about men we would use such responses as: "the way men can show their support is by not showing up. The nature of sexual assault is such that having men there could make women so uncomfortable that they may not attend. This is not for men, none of the speeches are directed towards them, the focus is on women's safety. This is not an educational program. It is a rally. There are many educational progarams available through out the year, etc." Finally we decided that we would feel more comfortable saying There are men gathering at ____________ to discuss this issue why don't you go there. So it was decided that we would provide (minimal effort) an alternative space for men to meet, and possibly a list of questions that they could discuss. Next we talked about the contact lists. We divided them into sections for us all to pursue: Student womens organizations, international organizations, (we saw the need to contact the international organizations because they often don't have separate orgs for women, yet we did want to reach the foreign women on campus. Also in an attempt to do this we will contact Sally Baldus of WOmen in Development to see about FOriegn women's support groups. DVP and RVAP contacts, WRAC, NOW contacts Women's businesses, WOmen in Govt. and any other way. These list will come together at the next meeting where we will decide how and why they need to be contacted i.e. money, time, personal contact or letter. Susan was assigned the writing of a cover letter including requests for time, money, a purpose statement, and suggestions for ways of addressing the many issues. With the letter will be a Purpose statement. which will cover our purpose for hold the rally the letter should address the various issues discussed tonight and include
