that women have been doing this work for years. Men and women will never be able to come together to discuss the issues of violence against women until they have both been given the opportunity to discuss their feelings and experiences separately, as men and as women. Take back the Night was an attempt to offer a for women to do this. If it wasn't a women-only event, it could not achieve its goal. [handwritten] Some of the suggested changes in syntax have to do with making those groupings, or "connections," we talked about. But I guess the most basic questions I have are about the likelihood of your convincing an audience not already in agreement with you. I think the strongest part of your argument are the redefinition of the purpose of the event (as not educational but expressive) and the point that the presence of men in the "audience" affects and limits what can be said. Thus subverting the purpose of the event. The argument about power relationships is interesting and obviously important to your conception there. But - like the reference to sex roles and their conditioning effects- it offers a conclusion as a premise. For the people you're trying to convince, these conclusions may not be self-evident or simple.
