Men and women will never be able to come together to discuss the issues of violence against women until they have both been given the opportunity to discuss their feelings and experiences separately, as men and as women. Tke Back the Night was an attempt to offer a sapce for women to do this, if it wasn't a women only event, it could not achieve its goal.

Certainly it is the right of any person to attend any public meeting. As with any social movement - success is gauged through significant changes in the public consciousness. To live in a culture that recognizes and supports women's needs to gather seperately and publicly would indeed be a victory. While many men understand, respect and support this need many more men and women are still   this issue. A way to facilitate this understanding is through actions and discussion - such as this one.
