Feb.20, '83 My dear dear Mrs. Inertia Galore. We have seen so terribly busy ironing that we haven't had a minute to spawn new chapters, but here is our complete kit. Please do have hubby write out a check for $5 for these collectibles and include more if you would like extra buttons, cards, or other goodies. His Truly Virginia Cholesterol Dear Phoebe- A quick undercover aside - Our experience with Phyllis was that a large portion of the audience at her debate here in SF really wanted to boo her, and another portion was angry at the rowdies because they wanted to hear a good feminist debater tear her to shreds, and the audience wasn't respecting the debate format. It was real zoo, and we ladies (who had picketed outside) merely sat quietly inside, with the exception of a cheerleader in our ranks who drew laughs for coyly rustling her pompoms overhead at every mention of Mr. Fred Schlaffly, a major theme. See clippings for their approaches at other events. P.S. is smart as a whip and very sharp as a debater, and has been met by chapter of L.A.W. at least 4 times, so research her and know what you are attacking. Her big things in debate here were to promise college women that you can have it all, home and career, (AFTER the debate we stood up and cheered WHAT DO WE WANT? Husbands! HOW DO WE WANT THEM? Rich! Hopefully we bought a few of the contradictions there.) The other big issue was the female draft ... a real difficult one. You may wish to focus more on rich lady images and less on the housewife stereotype... Or you may want to research her further. There are several biographies out, and her own books of course. To form a chapter of L.A.W. you need 5 ladies and at least one paid $5 membership to cover the packet of stuff. Some slogans are included in the enclosed clippings. Please attribute the concept to us if you are interviewed, and in all leaflets or press releases. Go to it ! Y, Gail Wms. home phone (415) 431-0202
