THE FANTASITE 17 Reader's section (These are letters commenting on #2 Scienti-Comics. Let's have your comments on FANTASITE now. ) ---------------- Harry WARNER, Hagerstown, Md. Thanks a lot for the new Scienti-Comics. It's a 100% improvement over the first issue, to my way of thinking. The yarn and departments and fillers are the best thing -- you could have found plenty of magazines just like the first issue but this time it's of much more interest to the fan. Very pleased with the way you illustrated "Sthanee"; anytime you want to do the same thing with any other yarn that may appear in SPACEWAYS or HORIZONS, just go ahead. You have my blanket approval, but it would be best to write the author. (( Thanks, Harry, but as you see, I have no more use for comics. PB)) Count me in on that Society for the Succor of Small Town ScientiFans, I'm rather desparate, myself! Again, congratulations. Next time I'll write a real letter. (( O. K., and make that real letter a nice long one about THE FANTASITE)) ----------------------------- DAMON KNIGHT, Salem, Oregon S-C #2 is a large improvement over the first ish, even with my cover which didn't turn out, in several places, the way I thought it would. Next time I'll use a pen, I guess. (( I thot the pic excellent, as did everybody else, pal. PB)) Your expurgated version of "When Stanee Wakes" very good....ditto 'Inevitable Necessity' -- you wouldn't care to tell who Criss Cross is, I suppose? (( Right. PB)) ..comics better than ever....in fact, the whole thing is highly satisfactory. I heartily applaud the idea of an SSSTSF, and demand to be made a vice-president at the very least. Suggest that the initial activities of the Society be directed toward succoring me. ((Hail vice-president damon! But as founder of the org I insist that I be the first to benefit by it. PB)) ____________________ WILL GROVEMAN, Hempstead, N. Y. Scienti-Comics is better this time, especially with more solid matter. My tip is to change the name, drop the comics altogether, and just print stories. And who is"Chris Crosse"? (( Whaddya got to say now, Bill?)) ___________________ MELVIN SCHMIDT, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Needless to say, I found the second issue much improved over the first. The story by Crosse was rather good as was the picture story. And an increase in pages is always welcome. Personally I have always liked the small size magazines and would just as soon have yours be that size. You're not the only one who has trouble buying all the mags and having money too. I almost long for the good old days when there were only four magazines, again myself. Now pro and fan magazines take about all my spending money and I am too big a dope to even stop buying one of either. ((You're not a dope, Mel, it's just typical collector's enthusiasm. PB)) ____________ R. D. SWISHER, Winchester, Mass. Have already received #2 and am pleased to note fewer pictures and more reading. Probably you'll strike the right balance pretty soon. ((Hope we've struck the right balance now. What say, RD?? PB )) ----------------------- (contd. on next pge.)
