For yes indeed, there will be a postposting, this one slaved out by the OE, so you are all invited to get in your tardy fanzines to me and save the labor of enveloping and addressing them yourselves. The Clayton Astounding Index, which i intended to have in this mailing, was delayed by circumstances not entirely within my control. To avoid breaking my neck, i also let the current Sustaining Program lie over for the postposting. There’ll be an FA Lean-to with the postposting giving the results of the election, thus taking the place of the postcards which are usually sent out. And probably i’ll have some miscellaneous bits. Ashley should have his En Garde done in time for this postposting, and i have hope that my telegram reached Stanley in time to stop him from mailing Efty out separately. Searles has probably already mailed most of the FC’s and Devil Take the Hindmost for FAPA. But it looks like you can expect a considerable supplementary bundle a month hence. A few words about my publications in this mailing: They should silence for all time those who urge me to desert dittoing and return to mimeo. In truth, they’re not all together a fair ensample. The two-year-old stencils had in some cases seriously deteriorated, and i had to restencil one page and part of another. It was out of the question to restencil the whole, however, equally to attempt to extract what of the contents were still of interest. Another cause of trouble was Alexander Llewellyn Schwartz. He ran off the first few pages of the two SusPros (the cruddiest pages), blithely unconcerned about their readability and not too conscientious about making sure there were 65 copies of each. That’s why a few of you will get SusPros with a one or two carboncopied pages. This is strictly unconstitutional, but in view of the difficulties, i hope you’ll forgive me. The only way i could have perfectly complied with the constitution would have been to restencil and completely rerun both sides of the sheets in question (since there are differences in typography, later-stenciled stuff wouldn’t have been identical with the originals), Sudday having discarded the stencils after using, contrary to my instructions. Oh, i love that man. In view of the custom against candidates being ballot-counters, it should be explained that Widner’s appointment to the ballot-counting committee antedated his filing for secyrteas. Norm’s appointments were doubtless dictated by geographical considerations. It was only after Art got to the Pacificon that Ashley and Laney talked him into running. Until next month, Jack Spear
