CHICAGO 1940 WORLD SCIENCE FICTION CONVENTION Hotel Chicagoan -- Sept. 1st - 2nd (Please note: This corrected, amended, and otherwise more-complete guide to Chicago, supersedes that guide which was distributed with the latest issue of Le Zombie. The below is as correct as the map makers and the Chicon officials can make it.) CHICON HEADQUARTERS : HOTEL CHICAGOAN Located on Madison St. between Dearborn and Clark streets. The convention hall is on the second floor. Rates at this hotel begin at $2.50 and climb upward. Other Hotels HOTEL ATLANTIC: On Clark St. between Jackson and Van Buren sts. Rates begin at $1.50 and go up. HOTEL BREVOORT: (Close to Chicon HQ) located on Madison St. between Clark and LaSalle sts. Rates at $1.50 and up. HOTEL FT. DEARBORN: located at Van Buren and LaSalle sts. Rates from $2.00, up. Y M C A HOTEL: located at Eighth and Wabash sts. This is the ideal place for the fan on a budget. First, it is just 4 blocks north of the Union Bus Terminal, on the way downtown towards the Chicon. Second, its rates begin at 75¢ (for 18 year olds, and under) and $1 for adults, and climbs up to $3.50 for the best. (This Y hotel does not have a pool). Showers, typewriters, and other privleges available. Altho it is a YMCA, this hotel has floors setaside for families and women. LAWSON YMCA: Chicago’s newest; more classy than the YMCA above, but a bit steeper, too. Pool is available here. No women guests. Rates probably being at $1. Located on Chicago Ave., between State and Dearborn sts. This hotel is farther north, and located nearer the ‘Trailways’ Bus Terminal. Note: It would be very wise to write at once and make reservations at your intended stopping place, as these hotels, especially the YMCA’s, are nearly always full. _____________________________ This sticker rather speaks for itself. Reserve your place at the E.E. Smith, Honor Banquet ________________________ $1.00 per plate --- 1 9 4 0 Chicon We will be expecting you! Reservations for the dinner should be sent to Mark Reinsberg, in care of Korshak at 5555 Hyde Park Blvd., Chicago. Tickets will also be on sale during Convention hours. A good attendance at this Banquet is necessary and in agreement with the terms for our getting the convention hall. Earmark $1.00 of your Chicon fund for this big feed!
