HOTELS, RATES, and SUGGESTIONS for YOUR CHICAGO-STAY A thorough study of the transient housing situation in Chicago has convinced the Convention committee that the YMCA is the best bet. This, the largest Y in the world is located within easy walking distance of the Convention Hall, downtown Chicago, the offices of AMAZING and FANTASTIC, the theatre district, the best restruants, convenient to all forms of transportation. It accomodates men, women and families. *** The address is the corner of south Wabash and Eighth streets. (826 S. Wabash). The rates are as follows: Single Rooms: (daily) $1; $1.50 (water); $1.75 (water and toilet); $2 (water, toilet and shower). Double Rooms: (daily) $2; $2.50 (water); $2.75 (water and toilet); $3.50 (water, toilet and shower). A $1-a-day room may be had for $5.50 to $6.50 per week, depending on the room’s location. Special Rates: The IFF has obtained a special rate on the $1 room for high school students 18 yrs or under. (Wear your short pants) It is the YMCA policy to make no special rates for groups other than those connected with high school. The discount is 25% in groups of between 10 and 30. All those who wish to take advantage of this special rate must send in the reservation 10 days in advance so that a group arrangement can be made. Address the YMCA reservations to: “Reservations Committee”, c/o Erle Korshak, 5555 Hyde Park Blvd., Chicago, Ill. It was found that most hotels would make no special rate during the Labor Day Holiday, since this was generally when they were accommodating the largest transient trade, and thus are most nearly booked up. The Hotel Chicagoan rates start at $2.50 per day single; $4 double. There are any number of good hotels located within walking distance (see enclosed Chicago map) of the Chicon, which rent rooms from a $1 to $2.50 daily, so Convention attenders need have no worry about where they will stay when they reach Chicago. The big problem on their minds should be just getting here. The enclosed map is a reliable guide. RECEPTION COMMITTEE As a special service to Chicon-attenders a Reception Committee is being organized to meet all fans as they arrive in Chicago. Therefore, all fans who wish to be met at the depot are hereby instructed to write in advance the exact time and place of their arrival. Send details to: “Reception Committee” in care of Erle Korshak at 5555 Hyde Park Ave., Chicago. BANQUET Inasmuch as the Convention Hall was obtained under the generous arrangement of the Hotel Chicagoan that the IFF guarantee fifty dinners at the Smith Honor Banquet, at $1 per plate, it is a matter of importance that all reservations for the dinner be made in advance. There is no reason why the quote of fifty will not be over-suscribed, in which case any number of additional plates could be accomodated, but fifty plates must be had! Fans attending the Chicon will have to buy dinner for the evening even if they didn’t go to the Banquet, and for a little extra amount, fans will be attending and participating in one of the feature high-spots of the whole Convention.
