Please plan to attend the Banquet. Address your reservations to Erle Korshak, “Banquet Committee”, at the 5555 Hyde Park address. SPECIAL CONVENTION PUBLICATIONS Many fan magazine editors are publishing special editions of their magazines in celebration of the Chicon. The money raised from the sale of these publications forms one of the major items in defraying the expenses of the Convention. As in past conventions, the magazines so generously donated by fan editors as their contribution to the success of the Convention, will be sold on the scene of the Chicon. And a special souvenir is being prepared for all those editors who thus aid the Chicon. All editors who are donating a special edition are requested to hold the magazines untill you are ready to leave for Chicago and bring them along with you. If you are not attending the Convention yourself, send them along with a friend who is coming; or mail the edition to: “Convention Publications Committee”, Bob Tucker, Box 260, Bloomington, Ill., so as to reach that address not later than Thursday, August 29th. In the past also, many fan editors have published special editions and have not donated these to the Convention welfare. It is the fan editor’s right to do as he pleases in this case, but peddling a personal publication in the Convention Hall without special arrangement of the Chicon committee cannot be tolerated. There are many good reasons for this ruling. It is unfair to the fan editor who has unselfishly donated his magazine to the Convention, spending his money for no visible returns. Moreover, it sacrifices the dignity of the Convention when a group of indiscreet fans begin hawking their fanmags right in the middle of a session. It is also an ungracious way of thanking the hosts at the Convention for all the work they have done to make the event possible. It is for these reasons that non-donated fanmags cannot be sold at the Convention, except under the following arrangement: the Chicon is to receive ten percent (10%) of all monies taken in by the privately sold publication. In return for this, a table will be provided for the fanmag and advertisements for same be permitted to be posted in the Hall in a specified number in a space indicated. The publisher must provide someone to attend his table during the Chicon ((this non-donated group only)), and the Convention committee accepts no responsibilities in connection with the publication for its sales or possible losses. The above paragraph, it is hoped, will discourage any ideas or schemes for making personal profit out of the Convention at the expense of the integrity of the Chicon. *** Free literature and circulars may be passed out to the Convention Assembly, but not during a formal business session. AUCTION Please send all items you wish to donate to the auction to Erle Korshak, Auctioneer, at the 5555 Hyde Park Blvd. address. Donations of original drawings, old fan magazines, s-f books and magazines, odd collectors items that might possible have an auction value, are earnestly requested. Auction donaters will also receive the special Chicon souvenir. ADVERTISEMENTS When this report appears, it will probably be too late to place advertisements in the Chicon Booklet, so full details will not be given.
