SCIENCE FICTION JR. "For Your Info" conducted by The Staff First, fellow fans, let us take up the pen names of the various authors. Raymond A. Palmer uses A. R. Steber, Jep Powell, Alexander Blade, Wallace Quitman, and until just recently he used the pen name Duncan Farnsworth. Ray has vowed that as long as he remained editor of Amazing Stories, and Fantastic Adventures he would write no more fiction, but your editor, knowing him personally, doubts that another year will pass but what another great novel like "Black World" will be born on his Underwood. That autobiography of "Powell" was downright fake. (Note, there is not the usual 'foto'.) This isn't confirmed but Ray also uses P. F. Costello for a pen name. David Wright O'Brlan has Duncan Farnsworth, and (Yes, brace yourselves) John York Cabot for sudonymes. Dave, next to Bill McGivern is the master of humor and is a thorough clean and clear minded serious youth who does his very best on each story he pens. Therefore we gratefully dedicate this issue of SCIENCE FICTION JR. to Dave and his now bride Eileen O'Connor and to the Good old Irish that flows in their veins. We got the above information from Ray Palmer personally. Bill Garth is a famous name generally used when one author has two stories in one issue of Thrilling Wonder Stories, Startling Stories, and Captain Future. It Is used mostly by Oscar J. Friend, and Hank Kuttner. The TWS, SS, & CF slipped up when in one issue of Thrilling Wonder Stories they advertised the coming novel "Dr. Cyclops" by Jack Kuttner and in another issue it was supposed to have been written by the imaginary "Will Garth". Bill Hamling (who will appear In next issue) has William Carter Fellows and some more he asked me not to divulge. Enough for the pen names, now let us take up general fantasy Info. Tho largest collection of Science Fiction Magazines in Chicago is owned by one Jack Darrow who has Vol. 1 No.1 of A.S. and "oodles" of other rare material. Second Largest is owned by author Bill Hamling. On a recent visit he showed me his collection. It was the most complete one I have ever seen. Stacks upon stacks of Air Wonders, Strange Tales, Wonder and Astoundings. Complete files of the mags just stated, and a complete file of every other stf, ff, wd, and ht magazine there has ever been. He soaked three or four hundred slices of lettuce into the collection. (Made my mouth water.) Bill also showed me some originals from Ray Palmer including the one from 'Suicide Squadron of Space" and the ones for his superb mag "Stardust" which is now defunct. Stirring Science Stories continues no longer on account of a big, juicy law suit. They simply never paid their authors and artists anything for their work. Till finally one nice day they merged and the indignant authors sued and won a case against DAW. Besides having to pay their authors in full he had to pay them a lot over...thus the folding up of S.S.S. (No great lose to science Fiction) For further information see the Writers Journal month unknown. That Earl Singleton farce certainly was pretty corney. Getting everybody excited, and mourning and even having fan magazines placing "In Memoriam of Earl Singleton", then turning up alive and kicking. Pfui! Nay...double Pfui! Special from Ddopes observatory—Halleys comet had a blowout and will be a little late. We end this department with the cheery inuenda, "viva La Fan Mags". Write awav don't delay get a sub to S.F. J. !!!!!
