FAN-ATIC, Vol 1, No 3. May 1941. Page 17. RETRACTION. In our first issue (January) we made some statement, very nasty ones too, to the effect that Robert (Doc) Lowndes and Don Wollheim were Communists. Just before the second (March) issue of FAN-ATIC appeard we received a letter from Doc denying it; the retraction could not be printed last issue asthe mag was already dummied and partially stenciled when it reached us. So we are retracting our statements now. We wish to withdraw those statements now, Doc. Our only excuse being that we thought you [underlined] were Communists, and we don't like anybody who is a Communist. However since you aren't comrades we wish to extend our sincere apologies. Lowndes also asked us to print his letter of denial. Unfortunately; due to a mistake in the dummy, and also to lack of room; we can't print the letter. We hope our retraction suffices, Doc. [line break] ############ There was a bad mistake in the dummy; it wasn't caught until this stencil was partly typed. So, therefore, Lownde's letter had to [be] dropped. We had, in the dummy, typed 70 lines of the page instead of the usual 57 or 58; and instead of the usual 69 or 70 spaces per line, we had allowed 74 to creep in somehow. We didn't think that Doc would want us to print only part of his letter, so; this stuff that follows is being typed directly on the stencil (GHUGHU be with us!). The contents page is slightly off too, but not much. - Ye eds. [line break] ############# [centered] SO WHAT? Editorial by Yehudi yngvi is a louse yngvi is a liar yngvi is a liar ygnvi is a louse down with ygnvi worship yehudi worship yehudi down with ygnvi [printed horizontally between other two phrases] yehudi is [printed regularly] completely innocent. viva yehudi We hope that we can persuade some one, perhaps Joe Fann, on the other side of the fence to write an answer to Yehudi's challenging editorial. If you haven't already guessed it, this is in answer to Milton Rothman's [handwritten note in margin "Correction: Perdue, not Rothman."] yngvi inspired article in #2 SOUTHERN STAR. Any answer that doesn't meet with yehudi's [underlined] complete approval won't be printed. [line break] ############# There are no back issues of FAN-ATIC left; so don't ask, buddy.
