FAN-ATIC, Vol 1, No 3. May 1941. Page 24. COMPLIMENTS AND OTHERWISE. by You Continued Tucker's letter continued. Don Baboon Thompson's piece is the next best. Did I understand you right in that it will be a regular column? ((Yes)) I hope so. His item headed "Random Shots," dealing with the socioeconomic tendencies of fans, is worthy of reprinting in Art Joquel's new nifty, FMZ DIGEST should be plugged for all its worth (quite a lot) because this type of fan publication represents "A-1" quality from the start, and is something really appreciated. ((We heartily agree, Bob. See the fanzine review on Page 7. eds)) Phil Schumann's article, "Concentration," reminds me of a very good yarn I read years ago in WEIRD TALES; I remember neither the title nor the author, but the yarn concerned a mental adventurer who one day sat down at his desk, and by sheer will power alone, caused a paper weight on the desk to move. I have been trying ever since to duplicate the feat but the only results I have obtained to date are curt commands: "C'mon, snap out of it you drunk' " Lastly, I am enclosing a cash subscription to FAN-ATIC because, in one small way, Widner's plea for less fanzines is being answered, I am afraid. LeZ, present indications assure, is not apt to be around much longer; I suspect the two issues now planned will be the last for some time to come. ((The suspension was only temporary; LE ZOMBIE is going strong again, with E. Everett Evans as financier. - ye eds.)) J. J. FORTIER, 1836 39th Ave., Oakland, California Dear CAB, Roy Hunt's FAN-ATIC cover was really splended printing. Too bad that you had to ruin it with all that putrid printing at the bottom of the page. Next time don't let this happen. I like the simplicity of the cover though, so keep it that way. "Thanks, Depresh!" was a superb choice. At such a time it is even more timely than it would have been so many years ago. Congratulations on your brilliant contribution, Forry. Art Widner takes the cake with his swell article. That is something I have been wanting to suggest for a long time, but never quite got around to doing. New fans; take heed! Heh, heh. What a crack to make about the SOUTHERN STAR concerning its mimeographing after you look at your own. Correction : SPECULA has almost 90 pages per issue. FFF has well mimeoed pages. Art is in the groove with his letter. It was almost a duplicate of mine. And I betcha you're Yehudi. ((CAB is not Yehudi! - ye eds.)) Hey, Laichas! Jim Bush, 1978 36th Ave. ((Oakland)) wishes to correspond Davis had a nice idea for a poem, but it was composed in a no-so-hot manner. Most fan poetry is juvenile anyway--I refrain from it. Glad to see that Tiger and Feldman will appear. If you think Thompson is good, see OUR column in the next issue of STARLIGHT. Thompson was damned good though, so I hope to see much more of him.
