xx fanfare Their Own Petard by H. C. Koenig FROM "SEEKERS OF A BETTER TOMORROW" BY G. KEV CHAPMAN IN "THE SCIENCE FICTION FAN" VOLUME 5 NO. 6 "Mr. Abraham Merritt, in his magnificent, little masterpiece, THE BLIND SPOT, dared the whole world with one inspired line --- 'Did you ever stop and think of eternity? It is a very long time.'" Might I make a little suggestion, Mr. Chapman? Don't bother to stop and think of eternity. Try something a little easier and more practical. For instance, try to think --- real hard, now --- who wrote that "magnificent, literary masterpiece," THE BLIND SPOT? Just as I suspected, you don't know. Well, that wins me twenty-five bucks and a set of the encyclopedia. The answer? Messrs. Hall & Flint. I'll wager that every one of the radio Quiz Kids could answer that one. -------------- FROM "THE MARTIAN ARE COMING" IN "COSMIC STORIES" VOL 1, NO. 1 "'Traitor!' hissed Whitlow from the corner of his mouth." It's no use. I tried it form both corners of the mouth; separately and together, and I just can't do it. Maybe one has to have false teeth. (*Poo --- it's easy, Heck. Obtain an old jaloppy, vintage 1930 or earlier, run over a large nail, (a broken bottle will do) then wrestle with one of those old split-rims for an hour or so, (assuming you have no spare) and have someone hired to come up at the end of the hour and query (oh-so-innocently!) "Having tire trouble?" You will hiss from the corner of your with an ease and facility which will surprise you no end, unless it is perchance spoiled by a throaty growling effect.*) ---------------------- FROM "SOME BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES" IN "FANTASY FICTION FIELD" VOL. 2, NO. "Hyman Tiger...23, tall, brown hair and eyes...is misanthrope and misogynist; lately imbibing the works of Shopenhauer ---" "Scott Feldman...younger than Tiger. --- Is being tutored in Schopenhauer by Tiger ---" The underlining is mine. Need I say more?
