page 18. ARCHEOLOGY DEPARTMENT Professor Acoly, widely known authority on ancient customs and beliefs, has recently returned from a thorough study of the region of Southern California. He has brought back two well-preserved specimens of the fetishes used in the strange Foo-Doo worship which once wielded tremendous power in this section. Of unusual interest among his newer discoveries is the increasing certainty that this cruel worship is still perpetuated among a certain class of natives through several obscure cults. Certain obnoxious practices and questionable literature have been noted, lending credence to such a possibility. [Illustration of two voo-doo dolls.] Through the courtesy and co-operation of the artists and preparitory staff of the Mid-West Museum, The National Fanographic is privileged to present the Jerkosaurus pictured at the right. This reconstruction was made from fossil deposits unearthed in the vicinity of Muscatine, Iowa. [Illustration of a dragon's head.] An expedition into the wilds of the East has recently been rewarded by the discovery of the long-lost and legendary remains of one of the wonders of the ancient world, the Ivory Tower. This well-nigh mythical ruin represents the last surviving remnant of a former culture of low survival value. A series of lectures is being prepared, based upon this find, comparing it to more successful modern cultures, and designed to acquaint the student with the factors which inevitably led to its decline. [Illustration of a tower in the wilderness leaning to the left.]
