With this issue we publish news of a reborn Queens Science Fiction League. Perhaps the most important part of that news is the fact that definite procedure has at last been established for the absolute prevention of any further disorder arising out the presence of unwelcome visitors. Time and time again an organization in New York City which considers itself a rival of the Queens SFL has sent two or more of its members to the Queens meetings, for what purpose one can only imagine. Only about a half dozen of that organization's members are persona non grata at the Queens SFL, yet they persist in coming to QSFL meetings. When it is remembered that these persons were responsible for the breakup of the organization in the summer of 1938 which resulted in the suspension of the charter at the hands of Editorial Director Leo Margulies, it cannot be wondered at that they are not exactly welcomed with open arms in Queens. However, the animosity has approached the fisticuffs stage more than once, and in order to establish a democratic procedure to eliminate such a contingency, the motion to oust unwelcome guests after private protest and the ouster vote of two or more Queens members after open discussion was finally past at the May QSFL meeting. It is to be hoped that this will solve this very difficult problem in the battle of an organization to protect its very existence. If this method succeeds, others may copy it. FAN MAG REVIEW by Harry Warner, Jr. Futurian Observer: nos. 27 & 28. The former 6, latter 2, legal size mimeod pp. Fan gossip and news, a bit dated now, but still interesting. 7 issues for 20[cents], from 10a Sully St, Randwick, Sidney, New South Wales, Australia. Cosmos: nos. 12 & 13; 10 and 6 pp, 10[cents] and 5[cents] respectively; later final issue. A little bit of everything mixed up, two color mimeoing, and generally pretty good. Del Monte, Kangaroo Pt Road, Sylvania, New South Wales, Austr. Futurian War Digest: vol. 1, no. 5; Cosmos: (another one!) no. 2; The Gentlest Art: no. 3; The Fly in the Ointment; no. 1; Fantasy War Bulletin: vol. 2, no. 4; and Moonshine: no. 2; all stapled together. 22 pp in all. It's a sort of British FAPA arrangement; 60[cents] bring you 12 issues of Futurian War Digest and whatever publications may be mailed with it. They are all intensely interesting. Money should go to 4 Grange Terrace, Chaleptown, Leeds 7, England. BOOK REVIEW: "The Lungfish and the Unicorn" by Willy Ley; Modern Age Books, New York, $2.75. In "The Lungfish and the Unicorn", Mr. Ley presents a remarkable zoo of strange beasts from the far corners of the world, from remote eras of time, and from the dark recesses of men's imagination, a sort of zoological curiosity shop. From Mr. Ley's description of the byways of zoology, the reader obtains a clearer picture of evolution as a process that is still going on. The books gives several accounts of scientific discovery, and includes a number of chapters on modern research which are directly connected to the works of Pliny, Gesner, Linnaeus, Cuvier, and Darwin "The Lungfish and the Unicorn" is Willy Ley's first book to be published in America. Decorate your letters with DINOSAUR POSTER STAMPS. Formerly issued by Sinclair these stamps are becoming rare. 10[cents] set % FANTASY N.
