GRULZAK CAGE DANGER!! ZZZ! QUIET! EDITOR AT WORK Fans who were quite generous with their praise of last issue's litho cover may be glad to see that Vamp sports anothe rone this trip. The cover pic was not only drawn by Pvt. Walt Kessel, but the ambitious guy actually printed it himself, bless 'im! Seems that Walt happened to be stationed in some Army joint that is overflowing with multiliths and photo-offset machines, which is practically paradise from a fanzine editor's point of view! So one morning we unexpectedly received a bulky package in the mail. Cautiously prying into one corner, while listening intently to see if a clock-like ticking sound could be heard, we chanced to see a ghoulish-looking face protruding. "Gaw," said we brilliantly, "this looks like a litho cover." And it was. Walt Kessel has our nomination for the top-shelf of fandom's immortals. For the next issue, Star Angel Joe Hensley has offered to sponser another cover. So the prospects look bright for still more luscious lith work on issue #8--in all probablility, Splawn's space scene. Ain't slans wonderful? Alas, the present issue does not contain Tigrina's article, as predicted last time. The article was really a chunk of Pacificon propaganda, and is now a bit dated. We may publish it in our as-yet-untitled FAPAsine. On hand for the next Vamp are a pair of book reviews by Ken Krueger (the aforementioned gentleman is at present working on a lengthly article re. centaurs in fantasy fiction, which we hope to present in a future Vamp--A suggestion that the piece be called "Got "Im--Dead Centaur" has been, fortunately, abaondoned). Also on the booksis "Legendary Lore: Notes and Comments", by George T. Wetzel. The latter piece is a bit lengthly, and will require some re-working to boot, which is why it isn't included this time. We'll say this, tho--it will be different from anything Vamp has ever published before. Serious fantasts will enjoy it. Other material on hand, too--but how about YOU writing something, huh? Anything that reeks of fantasy is welcome. -4-
