PAGE (10) FIRST ANNIVERSARY ISSUE FANTASY-NEWS meteor shower, and so return, except the astronomer is dead - Two scenes from this film appear in the APRIL 1934, issue of WONDER STORIES GOLD - UFA Film - 1935 with Brigette Helm (of Metropolis) Han Albers, Michael Bohnen - The film deals with the discovery of change lead into gold. A Professor Achenbach and his assistants, amidst giant electrical apparatus, find a way to change the atoms, and turn into gold. But one of his assistants is bribed and at the next experiment, Achenbach & an assistant are killed, when the machines explode. Holk who survives, is offered a position in John Wills laboratory, where he finds that Wills has stolen Achenbach's secret. Holk works with Wills, but at the same time is planning revenge. He does this by tampering with the giant electrical machines, which a few minutes later explodes, trapping the greedy Wills. THE ETERNAL MASK - Adapted by Leo Lepaire from his novel of the same name Made in Berne, Switzerland - 1937. With Mathias Wieman, who is Dr. Dumartin, and Tom [Kras?], Olga Tschechowa, Thekla Ahrens - This is a very interesting and dramatic fantasy film, resembling somewhat THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI, made in 1919 by UFA. Telling the story of Dr. Dumartin, a victim of schizophrenia, split personality, who believing he has killed a man, wanders in fantastic underground labyrinths looking for "Dr. Dumartin". After many such trips to the dream world of his crazy mind, he finally comes back to normal. The music for the picture, was very carefully selected, one of the themes being Liszt "Todtentanz". (Dane of Death) DOCTOR X - Warner Bros - filmed about 1932. With Lionel Atwill, Fay Wray, Lee Tracy. In technicolor. Cannot recall very much about this film except that a scientist discovers how to make a synthetic flesh and tries to form a hand of it since he's lost one of his hands. This was one of the best scienti-film ever produced. BY ROCKET TO THE MOON - UFA Film 1929 - Also known as THE GIRL IN THE MOON. Directed by Fritz Lang, from the book by Thea von Harvou. Prof Manfeldt has devoted his life in studying the moon, and in his book, "Gold Mountains of the Moon" states that if man reaches the moon, he will find tons of gold. If this is true, it will ruin the I.F. Syndicate. Helius, an inventor, builds a rocket ship, and with friends leave for the satellite, traveling at about 25000 m.p.h. When they land on a crater, they find there is atmosphere, and also find the predicted gold, in giant nuggets. Turner, the villain is found out and is killed. All leave the moon, except Wolf and Friede. ---- CALL by Dale Hart Comes a clarion call for me Out of the depths of Lea. "We ask this only boon." "I return to Lea soon." Then I ridded Lea of them, Those that Lea couldn't stem; Drove them out of the gate, Sent them to a just fate. ---- READ FANTASY-NEWS EVERY WEEK
