6 FANTASY FICTIONEER Nov.-Dec. will come very forcibly into the public spotlight. Among the proposals for Honor Guest are Dr. E.E. Smith, Ray Palmer, and several others. We will want [underlined] your nominations for that Honor very soon, as we want to pick the most popular figure in science fiction in 1939-40 without a mistake. Many personages high in science fiction fandom are planning interesting speeches, needles to mention, and even now, things are will come about eleven months hence are receiving careful attention. This really isn't all...for so much as been occuring that it would be hard to engulf everything in one short report like this. But some idea of the magnitude of the Convention machinery, of the Convention move-ment itself can be obtained....andthe best plan to wait for the latest developments to be announced thru-out the pages of fandom's man fan-mags, for the second report in the next issue of this organ, and join the IFF right now and hop on the comet-tail of the CHICAGO 1940 WORLD SCIENCE FICTION CONVENTION. BE THERE! [line break] [centered] The Eastern Situation by Erle Korshak (Note: Eric Korshak is a member of the Executive Board of the IFF in an advisory capacity. He is as this time in the East acting as Ambassador of Good Will. In the following article he makes a report of the pro-gress of his office, in New York City. -ed.) Due to my temporary residence in New York City, Iam able to cover the Eastern situation for the IFF. After six weeks of work (this is the progress before the Philly Conference) I am happy to report that my time has not been in vain. The things accomplished for the IFF are as follows: 1. Arrangements have been made with Conrad H. Ruppert, fantasy printer, to do the Convention program. Mr. Ruppert printed the program for the New York Convention. 2. The science fiction organizations of New York City will be with and behind the IFF one hundred percent in it's Convention sponsorship. 3. The editors, authors and artists in the professional field lend their moral support to our program. 4. I received pledges of advertising support from the professional mag-azines.....They will all advertise in the Convention pamphlet. 5. [F]rom Charles Hornig, editor of SCIENCE FICTION and FUTURE FICTION, permission was given to place two articles (one in each) concerning the IFF. More articles will follow, one article each month. The same privlege was granted by Mort Weusinger, editor of the Standard group. Thank you gentlemen, for your fine support. By the above five major steps we can see the attitude of the New York fans and editors towards the Chicago Convention. This is indeed a strong show of support. E.M.K. [line break] [centered] In future issues of the FANTASY FICTIONEER we will present many interesting articles, columns, officer's reports, and news written by and for members of the Illini Fantasy Fic-tioneers. And too, IFF members are allowed to place free advertisements in this magazine. Chicago in 1940!
