MIRANDO DRAFTED!! AT FORT DIX!!! JOHN GIUNTA, [list?] Monday reported to Tremaine, that Mike Mirando, up and coming young COMET artist had been drafted by the U.S. and was now at Camp Dix in New Jersey. MIrando will do no drawings when he's in the Army, but will resume his efforts when he gets back next year. Mike began his stf work illustrating for Giunta's AMAZING WONDER TALES, a fan magazine. Later he and Giunta worked together on the cartoon MAGICIAN OF MARS published in AMAZING MAN COMICS. Giunta introduced him into the pulp illustrating field by getting him work at COMET. Mirando also had a cartoon strip running in AMAZING MAN COMICS (now on the stands) called THE VOICE. Lots of luck Mike, may you be a General before your year is up! (NT) VAN HOUTEN JOINS COMETEERS Ray Van Houten having sold his first yarn, and being a well known native fan was asked by the COMETEERS to join them, and he has given his OK. He makes the 6th member of this cooperative group. (NT) ROBERT O. ERISMAN editor of MARVEL STORIES states in a national advertisement: I GET QUICK,MORE THOROUGH RELIEF FROM BROMO SELTZER. The new cover will be up-to-the minute, but still give DIGNITY and old fashion atmosphere to the (continued on P. 3) SAM HOSKOWITZ,RAY VAN HOUTEN AND TOM WRIGHT IN 6th ISSUE OF COMET cover for issue not yet picket. The stories for the 6th issue of COMET have already been picked.They include:THE IMAGINATIVE GENIUS by Richard O. Lewis;VANISHED UNIVERSE by Nat [Schachner?]; A LEGEND OF MARS by COMETEER Ray Van Houten, his first yarn accepted; THE KISS OF DEATH by Henry J. Kostkos;BEDORINS OF SPACE by E.A. Grosser; THE CAT THAT HAD NINE LIVES by [Simak?] & Carl Jacobi; THE FIRST MUTANT by COMETEER SAll Moskowitz, Sam's second sale to COMET. AT THE OTHER FOCUS by Tom Wright and illustrated by Tom Wright.; KABOC by Eugene Craig All the regular departments plus a two page spread of a ROCKET SHIP by Thorp. No cover or inside illustrations have yet been picked outside of Wright's drawing, but Tremaine expects to have them picked out in a week.
