First of all, we wish to apologize to all of our correspondants for the slow replies they've been receiving of late. I'm just beginning to feel the result of going into fandom! When I first started to correspond, I usually answered letters the same day I got them -- a while ago I began to slip up a day or so -- it became worse, and now I find I have letters piled up on my desk that should have been answered more than a week ago! Apologies. Wait'll he's an old timer. Wednesday, November 25th, brought a copy of the Fort Ma'Arthur Bulletin from Ackerman, with notes and little columns (by Pfc Ackerman (Ack0-Ack)) underlined, checked or somehow scored, all in pen. One little thing I found of interest: (not stf, or Ack, however) The Thanksgiving Menu for Fort MacArthur... Roast Turkey - Giblet Gravey - Oyster Dressing Fresh Cranberries Snowflake Potatoes Buttered Fresh Peas Buttered Fresh Asparagus Sweet Relish - Sweet Pickles and ripe olives Sesame Twists and Butter Blackberry Preserves Chilled Fresh Cider Fresh Milk Assorted Nuts and Hard Candies Fruit, Coconut, Chocolate Cake Hot Mince Pie and- Ice Cream! S'welp us, Forry - that's enough for any fan! And by the way, Mr Ackerman - was the Snafusius Say this issue the one suggested by you? A new fan by the name of Michael B White has written to Phil Bronson, Sam Russell and myself, professing a desire to join the "Minneapolis Fantasy Club". He requested a copy of Tycho, and seems interested, though we're inclined to believe it's a hoax, perpetrated by some MFS member. But anyway, Michael, if you're real, come around to a meeting! -- John L. Gergen. Raymond Washington, Jr, passes out the following: "Horizon House, a New York publishing firm which has, according to a circular, put out some very fine volumes on poetry, have accepted two of my sciencefictional poems for publication in America Speaks, their collection of fine poetry for 1942. They have accepeted Solaroids and Fantasy Synopsis. (Former in Planet, Fall '41; later in Sun Spots for about the same time (the last mimeographed issue - just before they went into printing)." We're sure everyone agrees with our offering Raym, "Congratulations!" Raym also forwards a bit of information on the next issue of Scientifun. He announces that it will contain: Another article by Driscoll P Redwood; some material by Mary Helen Washington. Raym would like fans who didn't receive the third issue of Scientifun to get in touch with him at Live Oak, Florida, since many of the mailed copies got lost in the mails (copies are 5(cents) each incidentally).
