Tycho Page 23 _________________________________________ my copy so late, I guess there is little value in my rating your contents. However - MacGregor gets 73. (Because I write fiction myself; and this is not so bad at all; I feel I ought to boost it.) Cover gets - I'll be generous and give it 54. Controversy! gets 63. Conquest 46. An Experiment-- (But I staunchly oppose this idealistic nonsense of separating the mind from the body) gets an even 50 -- but only because I choose to regard it as a bit of pure fantasy. '' For a first issue, the mag is even impressive. The mimeoing could be improved a great deal (I don't like "rainbowing" - i.e. using different colored-inks on the text; could never see where such added to attractiveness. Plain black is easier to read). I like the [taped?] spine - lends neatness. The ample margins between columns also appreciated. ' But it's terribly brief - I'd prefer a quarterly with more pages... -- Comments seem to be quite varied on Schultz' ' An Experiment of Interest tho most seemed to have liked it. Incidentally, we don't like "rainbowing", either, and have decided to cut it; and you've got your wish - - we're now a quarterly - ed -- D.B. Thompson, of 1903 Polk - Alexandria, Louisiana: The cover is excellent; good enough for any mag regardless of age. Contents-page arrangement fine. My copy has a few hard-to-read pages due to insufficient ink, and to the print showing through a little too strongly from the other side. However, all pages can be read, and part of them are entirely clear. '' Most interesting is the article on hypnotism. Like most such, it is rather inconclusive, but it certainly presents a lot of challenging statements. Curious how such a well-known technique is covered over with so much balderdash and mysticism. Ought to be straightened out, and such independent investigations could go a long way toward doing just that. Jack F Speer, of 6323 Western NW - Washington DC: Cover 7. Generally pleasing, but it doesn't seem to mean much of anything. I am especially curious, tho', about the little lights at the intersections of the lines. Bacover six. Meaningless, (I think) and it doesn't have the advantage of litho-reproduction. Frontp, 7. Conquest, since it's only one page, isn't bad; rather delightful in its extravaganza. 7. MacGregor is written well-- I mean the style is OK, but half of the story is taken up with descriptive prelude, and the ending is no surprise at all. 7. ' Controversy! 8. Rather like the stuff we get in fapa. An Experiment of Interest rates 9 with me. I was especially taken with it, because I've just about decided that telepathy is nonsense. I'm still not convinced, but if the experiment took place exactly as described I'd find it hard to get around. But if it's a question of granting the actuality of a spirit, or telepathy, I'll take the former. -- The "back cover" is symbolism, of course & is not supposed to illustrate anything. Sorry we had to cut your letter so drastically. Please do write - you fans! - ed --
