[centered]TO THE ATTENTION OF SESSRS. MOSKOWITZ AND SYKORA [centered]"A Statement of Policy" [all underlined] Contrary to statements appearing in the 95th issue of Fantasy-News and the April 1940 issue of New Fandom, the IFF has NOT and will NOT "preudiate offers to help made by New Fandom" at Philadelphia, [underlined stops] or else-where for that matter. Let the above named editors, in whose publications these false and calculated-to-scare statements appeared, take note, and let all fandom keep our above statement in mind whenever again such misinformation is passed on to you as "news". We, the below signed officers of the IFF, regard such statements, appearing as they did in organs which should know better, as nothing more than attempts to stir up trouble. We feel doubly sure of this be-cause that old herring, "the communists" were dragged in, to undermine faith in the IFF of that huge not-so-well-informed group that will make any convention a success or failure: the so-called "outer circle" . The IFF needs the help of New Fandom [underlined] just as much as it needs the help of [next five words underlined] every other organization and individual in fandom. But New Fan-dom must get over the notion that no convention can possible be staged unless it has it's nose in the pudding. You can help, like all other organization, New Fandom, by: (1) sending us as many memberships as possible; (2) unlimited publicity; (3) co-operation of the New York ed-itorial situation which you know so well; (4) any good collector's item you can possible send us for the auction; (5) your attendance; and most important (6) no more statements liable to cause trouble. As to your generous offer to "underwrite part of the expenses of the Chicon"....well, that is nice too, but why don't you wait untill we ask you for money? It is not possible at [underlined] this time to accurately esti-mate the Chicon expenses, but advance figures show an amount [underlined] far below your 1939 figure. We expect to finance the affair completely to our and your satisfaction; but if and when an emergency arises, we will ask you for money to help us - - and at the same time ask the Queens group, the Futurian League, the Los Angeles group, and every other organization in fandom for a like amount! - - for you have no more right to "under write" the convention than they. And speaking of "helping" and "under-writing", do you carry an IFF membership card? It is interesting to note that several Futurians joined --some time ago-- but at this writ-ing, we have yet to see an "inner-circle" Queens or New Fandomite join. Even that fact is not swaying us. Chairman Reinsberg's lists of fans he has picked for h is convention committee (which he will soon make public) contains several non-members (of the IFF) as well as members! Meanwhile, it is too much to ask to look for a public apology in your publications? Are we expecting too much when we ask you to stop this foolishness before it harms the Chicon? We say right here we need your help, what more do you want? (Signed April 28 1940, in Bloomington, Ill., by:) Bob Tucker Sully Roberds Mark Reinsberg Erle Korshak
