PAGE 18 FFF NEWS WEEKLY Th Pros (Continued from Page 17) lication is the rare METAL MONSTER which was an 8 part story in the old ARGOSY of three decades ago. THREE LINES OF OLD FRENCH can now be gotten in record form-dramatized. The radio station of Oklahoma City (TOLOF) recently braodcast this famous Merritt short story in script form. It was so successful as a broadcast that quite a number of recorded copies were made. Record can be gotten from the W.K. RADIO PHONE COMPANY of Oklahoma City, Okl Name of party involved in deal is Mr/ George Hamaker of same address. Price of record is $2.50. I belive this is the first time a Merritt story has been put on a record. I advise all who can, to get a copy right away as there weren't too many made. Famous Fantastic Mysteries was mentioned several times in this Broadcast. The editor of FFM received a telegram from the radio station with the above information. ..fff... From John W Campbell Jr, editor of ASTOUNDING - UNKNOWN we hear that RON HUBBARD is as good as iced in "up north" in his disabled ketch, "Magician II". As stated by Campbell in the December UNKNOWN, Hubbard was shipwrecked off the Alaskan coast. It seems that Hubbard repaired his ketch and again started for home when his crankshaft "gave way". He managed to make port, but winter is here, so he'll probably be there for months to come. He'll still be able to write stories tho, as he has his electric typewriter with him. (brought along for that purpose). In the January 1941 issue of ASTOunding is presented a yarn by Heinline entitled ---AND HE BUILT A CROOKED HOUSE--- all about a house built the 4th dimensional way. You go thru a door and land anyplace, except where you wanted to. A 3 part serial starts in this issue, 6TH COLUMN by Anson MacDonald. It gets the cover, which is by ROGERS with Schneeman doing the inside illustrations, the proofs of which show schneeman doing a good job. This isssue will also contain a Book Review: LIFE ON OTHER WORDS by H Spencer Jones. ...fff... A LETTER recived by Taurasi from RAP of Amazing-Fantastic Adventures reveals that FA was on the suspended list for 30 days, and that the revived edition will appear, dated Jan '41, on Nov 20. It will continue to be a bi-monthly. Binder's yarn SHADOW DRAGONS originaly slated for the non-appearing December '40 issue, will appear in the May issue. FA will have the same small size format, the cover is by McCauley, featuring O'Brien's THE FLOATING ROBOT. Palmer states that AMAZING STORIES QUARTERLY will appear regularly, as the first issue was quite popular. Future issues will be the same as the 1st. It is intended to reach new readers only! RAP goes on to state that Amazing will never pass away, and to disregard the rumors stating otherwise. (JVT) ...fff... Wollheim's two pro-mags will be called Stirring Science Stories & COMETEER Press will receive its 3rd & permanent name with its 3rd issue dated Jan 1941.
