XI - 3 More important to me is the seeking of an understanding of life and of human relationships rather than a blind acceptance of maxims. We grow to accept those that prove true. ((False ones have mostly died out.)) XII - 1 I'm not sure that I understand to what extend you go here. Some such attitude is necessary but be alert for elements of escape. Even this is not bad if it is recognized. Your next paragraph suggests that it is escape. ((I had not consciously thought of it as escape although I can see now that it probably has some such elements in it. I see more clearly now that it must, as otherwise I would have recognized it sooner. -- EEE)). 3 Very good. We need perspective to keep our lives more calm. 4 At least man lives and keeps moving and hoping. 6 This is ego satisfaction which is good, but you should recognize the reasons. ((I think it is more than that; that it is growth by building your personality into that of the one helped. It is tricky stuff to handle; I believe there is great dynamic power there. -- EEE)). 29
