Vanguard Boojum #1 page thirty-two macVert (cont.) is that of the platypus." Which last comment is both cute & venomous -- & I love it. ... Emden's reviews, like most of Cretin, say nothing so entertainingly that one quivers joyfully just contemplating the possibilities should that lovely girl once again avail herself of a Subject. Stuffanonsense: Not received. Temporary: No comment. Vanguard Amateur: NC. He spoke, & was still. & so macVert went its way, & the Vainguard, its. Epilogue Letter Pohl Dear Doc: This in lieu of the reviews I promised you, and tried faithfully to write, and haven't written. Since I expect to be stricken from the rolls of Vanguard for non-production, the next time the rolls are checked, I feel it incumbent upon me to explain why I've non-produced. It isn't that I don't like Vanguard, itself. Of the five APAs I've joined at one time or another, Vanguard is far and away the peachiest. The mailings are worth anybody's reading time -- Danner's ads are almost always funny; I like the homely reminiscences of Emden, Zissman and yourself; Damon Knight, when sniping at his colleagues, justifies the description of a mutual female friend: "A perfect love." What keeps me from writing for Vanguard is only one thing: I have nothing of urgent import to say that can be expressed in less than fifty thousand words, and to write short pieces that say nothing for money. I hope, though, that you'll continue the subscription arrangement, whereby I may continue to receive the magazines for an extra half-dollar a year. Dear Fred: I agree. It is silly. But a lot of us do it. RWL end of VANGUARD BOOJUM (#1) "Our readers vanish away."
