"Climb Every Mountain" Once you're on your way, you may begin to achieve your goals. Your efforts don't go unrecognized at SUI; numerous honoraries are ready to welcome you when you begin to "Climb Every Mountain" and you've met their standards. Your first recognition may come as a freshman with an invitation to join Alpha Lambda Delta, a freshman women's honorary, which confers membership on those attaining a 3.5 (B+) grade average or better. (SUI grades on a 4-point scale, which means you'll receive 4 points for every hour of "A," 3 for every hour of "B," etc.). Being tapped for Mortar Board may be the climax of your junior year. Mortar Board is a national society for college senior women who have shown outstanding scholarship, leadership, and service. From five to twenty-five junior women are selected by the outgoing chapter and tapped at the annual Leadership Banquet. Mortar Board is both and honor and a responsibility, as the members sponsor several projects throughout the year. A Mortar Board white blazer is a symbol of an outstanding woman on the SUI campus. Phi Beta Kappa, one of the oldest and best-known of the honoraries, initiates second-semester seniors in liberal arts who rank in the top 10 percent of their class.
