Gung-Ho Participation Get ready! Select your sights, for the targets are almost in range. Outside activities are unlimited at SUI. There are activities to meet your interests and challenge your resources. On the following pages you will be introduced to the organizations available on campus. Each activity is briefly related in a paragraph written by its commander-in-chief. Surely one will arouse your talent and enthusiasm. Starting as subcommittee member, you can work yourself up rank to even the commanding officer by the time you are a senior. You will discover extracurricular activities are fun and develop your interests at SUI by GUNG-HO participation.......FIRE AWAY! ! ! Student Senate Located in the Union is the Student Senate Office which is the headquarters for the undergraduate student governing body. The Senate provides representatives from all housing units at SUI an opportunity to meet and provide the student body a voice in its government. The twenty-eight member Senate is elected each spring when the Senate election committee holds All-Campus Elections to select its president and other organizational officers. Commissions and committees give many students an opportunity to participate directly in student government. Memberships are open to work on various Senate projects, such as People-to-People program, Project Aid, faculty poll, etc. Every student helps elect his representatives on the Senate, and in doing so participates in student government. Remember to vote in All-Campus Elections! The Senate cooperates in relation to the Orientation program, the Miss SUI Pageant, and the Central Party Committee selection procedure. Reaching all areas of student life, its Court acts on student traffic appeals, as well as other Senate cases. You may start out on a subcommittee, but your chances of working up to Senate member or even president are as good as anyone else's If government is your interest in the activity field, stop by at the Union for more information. 17
