Student Faculty Relations The AWS Student Faculty Committee serves in the liaison capacity for bettering the relations in the University family. Highlighting its activities during the school year is the Student-Administration Coffee Hour in the fall. At this time members of the SUI administration meet and visit with students informally. Since they do not serve as faculty, their contact with students is limited. Therefore this coffee hour serves as a get-acquainted event. The committee also stresses throughout the year the importance of knowing the faculty on more than just classroom level. Faculty members are hosts to Orientation groups in the fall, advise various AWS committees, and are guests at functions and coffee hours. By supporting these programs, the committee carries out its purpose of bringing the SUI coeds and faculty closer together. Foreign Student Relations Coming to SUI in hopes of finding new friends? If you are, then the AWS Foreign Student Committee will help you to meet and get acquainted with lots of new friends-from all over the world! The purpose of the AWS Foreign Student Committee is to bring the American student and the foreign student closer together, in order that each may more readily understand and enjoy the other's cultures. Dinners, picnics, discussions, folk singing, and dancing are sponsored by the AWS group. Usually they also help with an International Festival. The Foreign Student Committee works closely with the members of International Center Association and Board in order to promote many other activities such as volleyball and bridge. The Committee is composed from eight to ten girls, selected from applications submitted to AWS in the spring. If you are sincerely interested in foods, languages, and habits of other lands, do join the Foreign Student Committee. The work involved is hard, but you'll find it's really worth it as you acquire friends and knowledge from other lands and cultures. Orientation Your first acquaintance with SUI can be exciting, interesting, and memorable. AWS, working with Student Senate, invites you to Orientation activities acquainting you with campus life, faculty, staff, and students. Activities begin just before the opening of classes. The first evening you meet faculty and your Orientation leaders. Topics of interest in academic and extra-curricular areas are discussed. The program is designed as an informal 28
