let like you. Within the dorm government there is a wide range of activities, including committee work and interdorm projects. If your field is music you will be interested in exploring the possibilities of the band, orchestra, University chorus and Old Gold Singers. The all-girl Scottish Highlanders march with their bagpipes and drums, making music that is famous all over the country and even in Europe, where they perform on tour every fourth summer. Other activities limited to ladies only include the Iowa chapter of YWCA, the Women's Recreation Association, and, of course, AWS. Many Iowa coeds act as "big sisters" to handicapped children in the Hospital School. Others are members of Angel Flight, an auxiliary of Arnold Air Society, or act as ROTC sponsors. Iowa coeds also hold their own in mixed organizations such as Sailing Club, Iowa Mountaineers, and many departmental and professional associations. All those who participate in activities have a responsibility to the University, for it is primarily the students who organize and plan such major University functions as Homecoming and the Miss U of I pageant, Spring Festival, and Orientation. Activities are an excellent way to investigate what the University does behind the scenes, and what role you, the student, play in its productions. {Drawing of girl pulling rope to open curtain} 17
