attend the series of football lectures sponsored by WRA. Members of the coaching squad will explain fundamentals and finer points of the game to you. Talks are illustrated with movies of the previous week's football game. "Canoe Capers" is another popular WRA event during the Mother's Day Weekend. These are the all-University canoe races held on the Iowa River with several types of races included. As soon as warm weather arrives, you'll have a chance to practice your canoeing skills before entering one of the categories in "Canoe Capers." Using the wrong end of a paddle in a novelty race, men's, women's, and mixed races are usually the categories in which you can participate. One of the largest programs within WRA is Intramurals. Teams from women's housing units compete in golf, bowling, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and swimming. At the end of the year, the housing unit which has gathered the most points for winning first, second, or third places in the various tournaments is awarded a traveling trophy. Rifle Club was a new venture with WRA last year and developed into an active club. Members participate in telegraphic meets with other schools. To explain, Iowa girls send their scores to other schools who have recorded their scores, and the school with the higher number of points has won the telegraphic meet. WRA plans a full year of recreational activities for you to meet all your athletic interests. Early in the fall, you'll have opportunities to learn more about the individual programs at the all-University open house and at WRA's open house later on. Student Council Eighteen representatives from housing units, including married students and town students, compose the student governing body at SUI. Twenty Student Council committees offer opportunities to interested students who wish to apply for positions. The student book exchange, all-University elections, Camps Chest drive, pep rallies, international relations, Homecoming parade and program, and public relations are all under their direction. You can obtain applications at the Student Council office, now located in the new addition of the Union. 28
