With the exception of "late leaves" for special occasions, closing hours are 10:30 p.m. on week nights and 12:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. CODE FOR COEDS—To describe activities and social life on campus, this AWS publciation is sent to all prospective women students during the summer. Three women—editor, assistant editor, and art editor—comprise the staff and do the writing and illustrating. The editor is a member of AWS General Council, where she reports on the progress of Code during the year. FOREIGN STUDENTS—AWS Foreign Students chairman, Betty Junk, and her committee chosen in March sponsor the International Festival of Holidays and several dinners. Held at the International Center, the dinners are prepared by students of the countries represented. The International Festival, co-sponsored by the International Club and the International Center, is a colorful affair held in the Main Lounge of the Union just prior to the Christmas recess. It includes booths and a climaxing pageant depicting holidays around the world. FRESHMAN COUNCIL—On the basis of high school activities and potential leadership, approximately twenty women are chosen through interviews with General Council to be members of AWS Freshman Council. They serve in a training capacity for later work in the organization by sponsoring their own projects as well as by working on AWS committees. They represent the United States in the International Festival, act as orientation leaders during second semester, and plan the tea that follows Mortar Board tapping on Mother's Day weekend. HIGH SCHOOL CONTACT—Committee members are appointed from each represented county in Iowa to work with the SUI Dad's Association chairman in giving information to high school students about the University. High School Contact is active during the winter and spring. INFORMATION FIRST—To keep the students well informed is the aim of this committee. During the year Information First meetings, which are held in the Senate Chamber of Old Capitol, feature noted persons who speak on local, national, and international topics of interest to the campus body. PROFILE PREVIEW--After classes begin, you will see and hear a great deal about applying for Profile Preview, the annual style presentation in which new women students are invited to participate. Choose your favorite outfit that represents fashion at SUI and watch for announcements that will tell you about the preliminaries. The styles committee will give modeling tips to all of you in your preparation for the tryouts. Approximately eighty women are chosen to model in the finals, when the 24
