Your main road is higher education, but don't neglect the chances you have for expanding outside interests and becoming a well-rounded person and future citizen. You'll be more enjoyable and interesting to others and likewise gain more yourself out of life if you start to take an active part in various activities offered here on campus. They all contribute to the development of a better personality and successful future. Hold them in proper balance with your academic work, and you'll find that the profits you receive will be of great value to you. As with your classroom participation, you benefit in direct proportion to what you give. Keep these pointers in mind, and outside activities will be as stimulating as they are fun for each of you. Following are a few of the organizations which might interest you once you feel adjusted to your study schedule and have some free time to spare. Student Council Student government at SUI is arranged on a basis of housing unit representation. The Student Council has eighteen members, including the representatives of the off-campus men and women and married students. It meets regularly to discuss currently University problems and programs concerning student life. Some twenty Student Council committees and their respective subcommittees allow a wide variety of student participation. Most significant to their program are the Campus Chest drive, pep rallies, Homecoming itinerary, public relations, and the all University spring elections of new organization officers. Constantly before them are the problems of student cars on campus and the football seating arrangements. new ideas and proposals are ever put forth and solutions reached by this group. Those interested in work of this type are urged to apply for subcommittee positions at the Student Council office in the southwest wing of the Union. 18
