Union Board The Union Board is composed of a group of students interested in the operations of the Iowa Memorial Union and its varied services, cultural programs and entertainment facilities. Election for the new sixteen-member board, takes place each spring in the all-University elections. Those selected are then each responsible for a separate Union activity and a committee which carries out the work of this particular area. Thee various groups are centered on movies, publicity, post game parties, special events, television matinee dances, bridge, the fine arts and tournament games. A prerequisite for board membership is the completion of fifteen hours of subcommittee work. Central Party Committee Membership on the Central Party Committee is pen to three sophomores, four juniors and give seniors through application each spring The executive boards of the Student Council, Union Board and the previous CPC committee screen and select applicants on the basis of former committee work, leadership qualities, and specific talents useful to the function of the group. This total committee of twelve is divided into the areas of tea and bids, decorations, entertainment and publicity. With the assistance of its subcommittee members, this group plans and sponsors each of the all-University parties during the school year. The schedule of event usually includes a number of concerts and at least five name band dances. Few students get behind the scenes of a large entertainment program such as this, but Central Party Committee allows for close student participation in the policy making and materialization of these plans. Dramatics and Speech Participation in the University Theatre play productions is open to non-major students in this area as well as those concentrating in dramatic arts. Several selections are presented each year, and there are jobs available to many students for each of these. Costuming, lighting, set designing, and actual acting techniques are offered through this medium. If you'd prefer to remain in the spectator's chair, you can be admitted to these stage productions upon the presentation of your student ID card. Closely allied with the drama department are the Forensics Association and various speech activities offered for those interested, Contests are 19
