At the same time student reporters give you up to the minute happenings around Iowa City as well as timely feature items on various aspects of the University. Those of you who are interested in this fascinating and extremely practical journalism work, apply at the Communications Center. Another student publication is the yearbook, the Hawkeye. This book is compiled throughout the year and published in late spring. The Hawkeye needs a large staff of willing workers, composed both of journalism majors and those in other fields. Although some previous yearbook experience is helpful for work on the Hawkeye, it is not essential. Watch The Daily Iowan for the announcement of the mass meeting for all those interested. Hawkeye Pep Club Whoever heard of a quiet football game! Football just isn't football without the crows cheering the team on to victory. The organized cheering section belongs to the Hawk-I-Pep Club. Cheerleaders who are laughingly aided by the clown and our hero Herky the Hawk, are chosen in the spring of the year. They may not be right on the forty-yard line, but the seats occupied by the members of the card section are valued ones. The blocked card tricks, the enthusiastic cheers - these arise from the seventy five subcommittees who work to make the Pep Club worthy of its name, EE-O-WAH-WA! Come join and "Give us an "I"" Central Party Committee Central Party Committee chooses students on the basis of talent, interest, and experience gained by previous committee work. Working their way up from subcommittees, twelve are selected. Responsibility is divided among them into the areas of teas and bids, decorations, entertainment, 20
